I’ve been using a variety of essential oils (EOs) for thyroid/endocrine support this past year with good results.
It’s important to tell your doctor you’re researching and intending to use natural self-help alternatives for thyroid support, since thyroid levels need to be monitored by your doctor.
Plan on using therapeutic essential oils/blends for a 30-to-90 day period, long enough to get clear results. Ask your MD to order bloodwork every 1-3 months to check your progress, as you establish a supportive dosage & routine. This may seem to be a hassle and an extra expense, but it’s the best way to monitor the results of your self-help health therapies.
The following thyroid-supportive essential oils blends may be purchased from Young Living Essential Oils (YLO):
· YLO’s Dragontime (15ml) a blend of 100% undiluted therapeutic essential oils: Clary Sage – Fennel – Lavender – Jasmine – Yarrow – Marjoram.
· YLO’s Endoflex (15ml) a therapeutic blend of: Spearmint – Sage – Geranium – Myrtle – Nutmeg – German Chamomile diluted in Sesame Seed Oil.
As well as the pure (undiluted) therapeutic essential oils: GERANIUM, CARROT, CYPRESS, & MYRRH
OR from Gaia’s Pharmacopeia where you may purchase custom blends for endocrine support and healthy thyroid function:
· Masterful™ (15ml) a therapeutic blend of: Rose – Geranium – Fennel – Sandalwood – Clove (17% dilution in Jojoba).
· Thymerl™ (3ml) a blend of 100% undiluted therapeutic essential oils: Clove & Myrtle
· Tranquility™ (15ml) a therapeutic blend of: Lavender -Bergamot – Geranium – Eucalyptus – Chamomile (10% dilution in Jojoba).
OR from sources of your choice as long as the essential oils offered are of therapeutic-quality meeting AFNOR, OC, EC cultivation, harvest, & production standards.
There are various places on the body that essential oils may be applied:
- over the thyroid (the ‘bump’ on the front of the throat)
- mid-back over the kidneys/adrenals
- organ vita-flex points on hands & feet
- at the base of the skull in the soft spot at the top of the spine.
I’m still figuring out the “perfect” life-style routine to supporting my chronic low-thyroid condition with therapeutic essential oils. My personal challenge being…consistency in my daily health routines.
I’d suggest starting out by buying the custom blends you’re intuitively attracted to OR to dowse for which therapeutic essential oils may be best to support YOUR thyroid.
I started dowsing – morning and evening – for which EOs to use with pendulum skills learned in the Aromatherapy Certification workshops. If you’ve never tried dowsing, read my article: Healing Path. Dowsing “How-To” is described in the article near the pendulum photo.
To my utter surprise, the essential oils & where they should be applied on my body (indicated by the pendulum) changed, depending on the following factors:
- time of day
- the stress levels I’m under
- the current hormonal cycle ‘time of the month’ (sense I still cycle, even though I haven’t been menstruating for 5 years or so).
On second thought, it does make sense based on what I know about acupressure and Jin Shin Jyutsu – that the organ systems get maintenanced at different times of the day. This is a VERY different approach from the prevalent medical advice of taking a specific drug prescription – of the same dosage every day for months/years.
Here are various dosage routines I have used:
Started out with…
am: 3 drops THYMERL™ – on THYROID & fleshy pads of THUMBS
COMMENT: My bloodwork results showed definite improvement after ONLY 30 days of consistent use. Per my doctor’s advice from those first test results, I doubled the number of drops I was using as well as the frequency of application.
Further education, research, and experimentation have lead to these 3 different dosage routines for my thyroid health, varying the one I use according to my current preferences:
am: 2 drops THYMERL™ – on Thyroid & fleshy pads of THUMBS
pm: 3 drops ENDOFLEX OR 2 drops GERANIUM (EO) – fleshy pads of Big TOES & around ANKLES
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
am: 1-2 drops ENDOFLEX taken orally under my tongue ’til absorbed.
am/pm: 1-2 drops THYMERL™ on fleshy pads of THUMBS & Big TOES to affect the pituitary (master endocrine system) gland.

am/pm: 4 drops (total) EndoFlex – on THYROID, fleshy pads of THUMBS & Big TOES, around ANKLES
OR pm:2 drops CYPRESS (EO) on THYROID instead of EndoFlex

Most recently I’ve come across the suggestion for pituitary support (supporting one’s whole endocrine system) to use
pm: 1-2 drops CARROT (EO) taken orally under my tongue ’til absorbed.
Followed by deep inhalation of MYRRH (EO) in the early morning.

I am preparing to go to my third class in EO’s in October. I have to do a project. I had been thinking and was getting ready to pendulum for a blend I had thot of the same 2 oils myrtle and clove. I am so glad your article was here on line. Thanks Marcia Walden
